Arianne Morais, a junior at UTEP representing Norway, won the women's javelin throw with a personal-best effort of 189 feet (57.61m) on her opening-round attempt at the NCAA Division 1 West Regional at Sacramento State. Morais, who finished 22nd at last year's NCAA final at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., secured a return trip to compete June 8 at the Division 1 championship meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
